There’s Mistaken Point, Newfoundland
There’s Moonbeam, Ontari-ari-o
There are places I’ve never been
and always wanted to go

Taken from “Fly” from The Hip’s World Container album.

It’s a little ironic that out of the two places this song talks about I went to the one in Newfoundland first. Mistaken Point is a beautiful and lonely place. You can find the most diverse and well-preserved collections of Precambrian fossils here. The fossils are only accessible up close if you have a designated guide. We unfortunately didn’t get there in time to book a guided tour so we were restricted to keeping our hike to the trail and only walking up to a certain point.

It was stunning nevertheless. I have a deep love of rocks and this is probably among the most amazing I’ve ever seen.
